About the owner of Premier
Premier Ltd, incorporated in the year 1944 by industrial pioneer Walchand (Doshi) as India’s first automobile manufacturer part of the erstwhile. Presently, Premier Ltd is headquartered in Mumbai, India.
‘Walchand’ industrial group had established many of India’s major industries. The birthplace is said to be Solapur, Maharashtra. Later, Seth Walchand Hirachand leads the implementation of his vision of an independent India based on genuine Indian enterprise, skills, and capabilities.

Mr. Maitreya V. Doshi, currently the Promoter and Chairman & Managing Director of Premier Ltd. Doshi, is an MBA graduate from IMD (Switzerland) and B.A. (Econ.) from St Premier Stanford University, U.S.A. Markedly, associated with the Company for over 30 years starting as Manager – Management Services (1984 – 1988), then Vice President – Corporate Planning (1988 – 1993).
Eventually Executive Director (1993 – 1995) and finally Managing Director in 1995. He was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board in 2007 and thereafter appointed as Chairman of the Board in 2008. By all means, he has been largely responsible for the strong turnaround of the Company’s operations as well as the development of new project activities such as the heavy engineering business.
Mr. Doshi has received many international YPO awards. Including the ‘Best of the Best awards for Chapter Education and Global Networking two times as well as YPO’s Leadership in Global Membership’ award.
In 1993, World Economic Forum, Geneva nominated Mr.Doshi as one of 200 Global Leaders of Tomorrow selected from all over the world. Also, he was the first Indian speaker at Automotive News World Congress, Detroit, the USA in 1996.

Details of the Company
During the country’s struggle for freedom, Walchand staked into areas that would strengthen India’s industrial development. In a word, his focus was primarily on all spectrums of the transport industry.
To facilitate the assembly and repair of warplanes, Walchand established Hindustan Aircrafts Ltd. Straightaway nationalized for strategic reasons after independence. Explicitly, Rechristened Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd went on to become a legend in the aviation industry.
Today the Company’s focus is on two core businesses, namely Automotive and Engineering. Especially, to operate out of its state-of-the-art ISO 9001 manufacturing plant in Chinchwad, Pune. The Engineering segment has two activities – CNC Machine Division and Engineering while the Automotive segment consists of Light Utility Vehicles and Sports Utility Vehicles.
Formerly, based in Mumbai, Premier Ltd. shifted to its current state-of-the-art ISO 9001-certified plant at Chinchwad, Pune. In fact, the Chinchwad plant, spread over 27 acres, now serves as the centralized research, development, and manufacturing for all activities.
To point out, Premier entered the utility vehicle segment with India’s most fuel-efficient SUV called the RIO, which is compact and available in diesel (CRDi4 engine) and petrol variants. Its portfolio also includes a 1.5-tonne LCV called the Roadstar.
