Editorial Policy

This page describes how WhoIsTheOwnerOf produces, edits, and corrects its ownership research. Every contributor is held to these standards. Every published article is expected to comply.

Mission

To provide the most accurate, source-cited, and frequently updated ownership data on the public internet for the companies, brands, teams, and platforms shaping daily life. We aim to be the publication that journalists, investors, students, and curious readers trust as a starting point — not an end point — for “who owns what?” questions.

Sourcing standards

Primary sources first

For any publicly traded company, we begin with SEC filings — 10-K (annual), 10-Q (quarterly), DEF 14A (proxy), 13D and 13G (large shareholder filings). For non-US listings, we use the equivalent regulator (SEDAR for Canada, Companies House for the UK, MCA for India, etc.). For private companies, we begin with the company’s own published statements.

Independent secondary verification

Every material ownership claim requires at least two independent sources. We rely on tier-1 financial publications: Forbes, Bloomberg, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Barron’s, and The Economist. We supplement with industry-specific outlets (Sportico, Variety, TechCrunch, The Information) where appropriate.

What we do not do

We do not aggregate from other “who owns” sites or copy from Wikipedia without independent verification. We do not cite blog posts, forums, social media speculation, or unattributed claims as primary evidence.

Updating & reverification

Every ownership post carries a “Last verified” date prominently at the top. Top-traffic posts are reviewed every quarter. Lower-traffic posts are reviewed annually or when triggered by a major event (acquisition, IPO, succession). When we update, we update the date.

Corrections process

How to flag an error

Email editorial@whoistheownerof.com with the article URL, the specific claim, and your source. We acknowledge within one business day.

How we correct

If verified, we update the article within 48 hours. Significant corrections (changes to the controlling shareholder, named CEO, ticker symbol, or core ownership percentages) are noted at the bottom of the article with the correction date. Typo-level fixes are updated silently.

Public corrections log

We maintain a public log of all material corrections. (Coming soon at /corrections/.)

Editorial independence

Ownership of WhoIsTheOwnerOf

WhoIsTheOwnerOf is published by JSAN Publishing, an independent digital media company that operates a group of media sites — WhoIsTheOwnerOf (ownership research), 4Filming (entertainment), CineParenting (parenting), and OstVibes (music) — reaching millions of monthly readers across the group. JSAN Publishing has no parent company, no outside investors, and no media-group affiliation. Revenue comes entirely from reader-supported display advertising managed by an independent third-party ad network.

No sponsored content

We do not publish sponsored articles, paid placements, “as told to” pieces, or affiliate-driven ownership reviews. We do not accept payment from companies we cover in exchange for coverage, favorable framing, or removal of unfavorable details.

Conflicts of interest

If a contributor holds a financial position in a company they are covering, that position must be disclosed at the top of the article. If the position is material, the contributor is reassigned and a different writer takes the piece.

Use of AI

We use AI tools (including large language models) for research assistance, draft outlining, fact-checking against source documents, and copy editing. Every published article is written, edited, and verified by a human contributor named in the byline. We do not publish AI-generated articles without human authorship and review.

Reader privacy

Reader data handling is described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell reader data. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.

Advertising standards

Display advertisements on WhoIsTheOwnerOf are served by an independent ad network. We do not control which specific ads are shown to each reader. We do exclude categories that conflict with our editorial mission, including: gambling, predatory financial products, and any content that would violate Google’s publisher policies. To report an inappropriate ad, email hello@whoistheownerof.com.
