Who Owns Chase Center_ The Complete Ownership Story (2026)

Chase Center just hosted one of the loudest nights in Bay Area sports history, when the Golden State Valkyries won the WNBA title there on October 31. Many fans still wonder who actually owns the building. The answer is not the city, and it is not the bank whose name is on the front.

Who Owns Chase Center in 2026?

Chase Center is owned and operated by the Golden State Warriors ownership group, led by Joe Lacob and Peter Guber. The Warriors own the arena and the surrounding development, including Thrive City, offices, retail, and a waterfront park, according to Sportscape.

The arena sits on private land and was built with private money, so the City of San Francisco does not own it either. JPMorgan Chase only pays for the name.

Does JPMorgan Chase Own Chase Center?

No. JPMorgan Chase signed a 20-year naming-rights deal that ESPN reported when it was announced, and the financial terms were never disclosed. Reports put the deal running through about 2039.

JPMorgan itself has no controlling owner. Its 2026 proxy lists only two holders above 5%, Vanguard at 9.86% and BlackRock at 7.15%, according to this ownership summary. Those same two giants, Vanguard and BlackRock, top the share registers of many other banking and finance companies.

The Origin: From the Piers to Mission Bay

The Warriors first planned a new arena on Piers 30-32 along the Embarcadero, announced in May 2012. The pier project ran into opposition and delays, so in April 2014 the team dropped it and bought a Mission Bay site from Salesforce, as Wikipedia summarizes.

According to Warriors president Rick Welts, Marc Benioff of Salesforce phoned Lacob and offered four fully planned blocks of Mission Bay land, as the San Francisco Chronicle tells it. Groundbreaking followed on January 17, 2017.

A $1.4 Billion Arena Built With Private Money

Chase Center cost about $1.4 billion, though one project profile from CAA ICON lists $1.3 billion. It was built by a Mortenson and Clark joint venture and finished in time for the 2019-20 season.

The team says it is the only privately financed arena built on private property in the modern era, as LoopNet reported. It opened in September 2019 with a Metallica concert alongside the San Francisco Symphony, and the Warriors played their first home game there on October 24, 2019.

Who Are the Owners Behind the Arena?

On July 15, 2010, a group led by Lacob bought the Warriors from Chris Cohan for $450 million, a record NBA price at the time, according to Athlon Sports. Lacob was a venture capitalist and longtime season-ticket holder, and Guber ran Mandalay Entertainment. You can read more in the Warriors ownership story.

Reported stakes put Lacob at about 25% and Arctos Partners at about 13%, per Wikipedia’s list of NBA owners. Bloomberg also reported in January 2026 that a 5% stake in parent company Golden State Group was offered at a valuation above $11 billion. It is unclear whether that sale closed, according to Courtside Owners.

What Is the Chase Center Business Worth?

Forbes ranks the Warriors No. 1 among NBA teams at $13.5 billion in October 2026, with estimated 2025-26 revenue of about $942 million, per its team valuation page. That puts them ahead of the Lakers, whose record $10 billion sale to Mark Walter closed in late 2025.

Sportico goes higher, valuing the Warriors at $14.5 billion and the Valkyries at $850 million, as Golden State of Mind reports. The privately financed arena is a big part of why.

Warriors, Valkyries and Big Events

Chase Center is home to the Warriors and, since 2025, the Valkyries. It also hosts the occasional San Francisco Dons game and concerts, and it staged the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Warriors star Stephen Curry, whose dynasty fueled the boom, also co-owns The Bay Golf Club in TGL.

On October 31, 2026, the Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 at Chase Center, as CNN reported. They became the fastest expansion team in major North American pro sports to win a title, the team says, after sweeping the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, owned by Raiders owner Mark Davis. The victory parade drew an estimated 400,000 fans.

Lacob and Guber have built the group into a wider sports and entertainment business, as the San Francisco Standard describes. Chase Center sits at the center of it.
