Who Owns NDTV?
NDTV is now majority-owned by AMG Media Networks Limited — a subsidiary of the Adani Group controlled by billionaire Gautam Adani. The Adani Group acquired its stake through a complex sequence of events: In 2022, Adani Group acquired VCPL (Vishvapradhan Commercial Pvt Ltd), which held warrants convertible into 29.18% of NDTV shares. Adani then made an open offer for an additional 26% of public shares. Combined with subsequent purchases, Adani Group’s total stake in NDTV crossed 64.7% by 2023 — crossing the majority threshold. Founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy subsequently resigned from the board, ending their 35-year run at NDTV.

NDTV’s History
NDTV was founded in 1988 by journalist couple Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy. It became India’s first 24-hour news channel in 1998, pioneering election coverage, investigative journalism, and live news broadcasting in India. NDTV 24×7 (English) and NDTV India (Hindi) were long regarded as among India’s most credible news outlets. The channel is listed on BSE and NSE. The Adani takeover in 2022–2023 was controversial — press freedom advocates raised concerns about India’s largest conglomerate controlling a major news network. Despite this, NDTV continues operating its channels and digital platforms.
